Parkersburg Homecoming officials honor Lipps

PARKERSBURG -- The Parkersburg Homecoming has honored a longtime volunteer.
Chuck Lipps has received the 2023 George Kellenberger Volunteer of the Year Award from the festival committee. Lipps is vice president of the Homecoming.
The surprise presentation was made Aug. 7 at the regular board meeting of the Homecoming board.
"I was both surprised and honored," Lipps said.
Lipps has been involved with the Homecoming and the committee for 23 years, mostly in the entertainment aspect of the event.
"Chuck has been invaluable to Parkersburg Homecoming. He has an extensive background in music and has devoted countless hours to Homecoming over the years," said Kyle Pierce, president of the Homecoming.
The award is named after the late George Kellenberger, the former president of the Chamber of Commerce of the Mid-Ohio Valley who ran the Homecoming for many years and died in 2022.
Among recipients of the award are Kellenberger himself, Randy Snyder, Woody Miller, Lori Craig Ullman and John Chalfant.
"I am very proud to accept it," Lipps said.
Lipps has been an asset to the Parkersburg Homecoming for many years, Pierce said.
"I am sure Mr. Kellenberger would approve of this selection as Chuck worked with Mr. Kellenberger many years ago," Pierce said.
The Homecoming will be held Aug. 18 and 19. Entertainers Matt VanFossen and Brandon Davis will perform the first night, with the parade, country singer Daryl Worley, the Johnny Staats Bluegrass Festival and the fireworks display on the second.
