Parkersburg Homecoming Festival again featuring Kids Fest

PARKERSBURG -- Kids Fest will be held from 6-8 p.m. today, the opening day of the annual Parkersburg Homecoming.
"Kids loved it last year," Kids Fest Chairwoman Sherry Dugan said.
Kids Fest has been held for four years, she said.
"We always have a great time," Dugan said.
Major Kids Fest sponsors are Moose Lodge 118 and Parkersburg Elks Lodge 198. Organizers were able to purchase back-to-school backpacks that will be given to the kids free of charge, while supplies last, she said.
"They gave us $2,400 and we bought backpacks for all the kids," Dugan said.
Backpacks will be packed with back-to-school supplies, snacks from Mister Bee Potato Chips and various coupons from Parkersburg businesses, Dugan said.
Everything is free at Kids Fest, Dugan said. The event is held under the train trestle in front of the Flood Wall.
Among activities planned for the Kids Fest is facepainting sponsored by Parkersburg City Councilman Wendy Tuck, Dugan said.
Thomas Entertainment will supply the bouncy houses, the Parkersburg-Wood County Public Library will bring the bookmobile, cartoonist J.D. Williamson will draw caricatures, the Children's Home Society will organize games and the Elks will have its drug awareness trailer available, Dugan said.
"We have lots of stuff going on this year," she said.
A popular feature of Kids Fest returning today is the Drum Circle, Dugan said. The circle features different drums, she said.
Dugan attributes the success of Kids Fest to the organizers, all volunteers, she said.
"My committee has done a wonderful job putting all this together," Dugan said.
