MARIETTA — Court is in session Friday, Saturday and Sunday as “The Big Bad Musical” takes the stage at the Mid-Ohio Valley Players Theater in Marietta.
“The Big Bad Musical,” written by Alec Strum with music and lyrics by Bill Francouer, is about the Big Bad Wolf being taken to court by fairy tale plaintiffs alleging serious grievances.
In the production by the Mid-Ohio Valley Junior Players, Dorothy Evelena Clark plays the Fairy Godmother who prosecutes the wolf. The character is a woman with a sweet facade, Clark said.
“She has an underlying evilness to her almost, but she puts on a very sweet and loving act,” she said.
Experience is the greatest thing about the show, Clark said.

“I love working with everyone here, and it’s a good show, and it’s cool to be a part of it. People should see it because it is an interesting twist on the fairy tales we all grew up with and love,” she said. “And it has all these new parts we were not introduced to as children.”
On the other side of the court is the defendant, Mr. Big Bad Wolf, played by Ace Crock.
Throughout the show it is revealed that the evil deeds attributed to him may not be what they seem.
Fun is the best part of the show, Crock said.
“And I like singing and the cast members,” he said.

Wolf’s defense attorney is the sassy Evil Stepmother played by Crock’s real life sister, Bridget Crock.
“I love playing sassy roles because it’s an opposite personality for me,” Bridget said.
At 16, this is Bridget’s final summer with the Junior Players program, which is open to youth ages 8-16.
“I’m very sad but it’s honestly great looking at the kids and seeing what I’m leaving behind, as well as teaching them the ways of the theater and the traditions,” she said.
Longtime Junior Player director Kay Doak loves to see the actors progress through the years.

“Sometimes you see someone who has it from the beginning but sometimes they’re just in these little shy shells and then they overcome it,” she said.
Among the members who have participated the longest is Caleb McClung, a part of the program since 2017. McClung plays Pig Three, a brainy pig who sees himself as superior to his two siblings.
McClung enjoys performing in local theaters.
“I not only like all the plays and having fun on stage, I also just like all the people I’ve made friends with,” he said. “The play has a nice message to it, and it has great characters. It’s a great time, and it has some pretty great songs.”
“The Big Bad Musical” runs 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10 each and are available at midohiovalleyplayers.com or at the box office 90 minutes before each show.
