Youth Rally, fishing derby slated for Saturday

2 min read

CAIRO -- A Youth Rally sponsored by the Harrisville Baptist Association will be held from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at Shelter No. 4 at North Bend State Park at Cairo.

Among activities planned are a fishing derby, nature hike, miniature golf, movie and swimming, among others.

The association is composed of eight churches, the Auburn, Cairo, Goose Creek, Harrisville, Straight Creek, Smithville, North Fork and South Fork Baptist churches.

Registration will begin at 10 a.m. Trophies will be given for the largest, smallest and the most fish caught at the fishing derby. Children will need to bring their fishing poles, bait and chairs.

Every child must be present with a parent or legal guardian. As long as a parent is present no license will be required for the hour of fishing for children between the ages of 15-18.

All children will be dismissed into appropriate age groups to cycle through the events. Among the events will be a four-member team golf scramble, a guided nature hike where participants should wear appropriate clothing and shoes and Smokey the Bear.

Lunch and dinner will be served at noon and 5 p.m. The Gideons will speak and present bibles for those wishing to receive one.

Youth do not have to be affiliated with a church to attend and the denomination doesn't matter.

The pool has been rented from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Bring swimming gear and a towel. The association requests swimming attire be modestly worn and T-shirts or cover ups are required.

The movie will be presented immediately after swimming. The movie will conclude the day of events.

Volunteers are needed to help with the event, according to the Rev. Sandra Walker, pastor of the Goose Creek Baptist Church. Walker is an active member of the board of the Harrisville Baptist Association. Volunteers also can call and buy pizzas for the event from Little Caesars on Seventh Street at 304 865-0833. The association will get the pizzas.
