Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall set for tour of duty in Parkersburg

PARKERSBURG -- The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall will return to Parkersburg Sept. 13-17, organizers of the exhibit said.

The wall will arrive 5 p.m. Sept. 13 at City Park where a brief ceremony to welcome the wall will be held at 6 p.m. Set up will take place at 8 a.m. Sept. 14 with opening ceremonies at noon.

The wall will remain open around the clock until closing ceremonies the morning of Sept. 17.

The American Veterans Traveling Tribute Traveling Memorial Wall is the largest traveling wall in the country and is an 80% scale replica of the monument in Washington, D.C.

The Special Veterans Projects also will hold a dinner and dance on July 29 at Moose Lodge 1118 in South Parkersburg. All proceeds will be used for the wall.

The event is open to the public with tickets sold at the door. Ticket are $15 per person or $25.00 per couple. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Baked steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, dinner rolls and cake will be served. Insured Sound will perform.

Commemorative T-shirts, a 50/50 drawing, cakewalks and an auction will be available.
