Parkersburg Area Community Foundation issues spring grants

PARKERSBURG -- The Parkersburg Area Community Foundation and Regional Affiliates announced grants Thursday through its spring Community Action Grant Program.
"The Parkersburg Area Community Foundation and Regional Affiliates partners with generous people to build permanent philanthropic resources that strengthen our region," foundation Senior Program Officer Amy Nahley said. "And we are happy to turn these resources into meaningful grants for our nonprofit community today."
The grants came from a variety of funds created by individuals, organizations and businesses to support critical community needs. Individuals and organizations that have Donor Advised Funds at the foundation also partner to support projects each grant cycle, expanding the foundation's grantmaking capacity.
Executive Director Judy Sjostedt Ritchie said the foundation differs from private foundations.
"It represents the collective generosity of the community," Ritchie said. "It's a collection of gifts, both modest and some very large, that roll over time and becomes a resource, a foundation, from which subsequent generations can build upon them. In doing so, it really represents the hope of a community."
Awards total $440,718, including $4,750 from the Doddridge County Community Foundation, $4,200 from the Ritchie County Community Foundation and $100 from the Little Kanawha Area Community Foundation affiliates.
