Washington County Career Center names May Students of the Month

MARIETTA -- The Washington County Career Center has announced its May Students of the Month, Emma Hendrickson and Braxton Brown.

Hendrickson is a Warren senior enrolled in the graphic design & video production program. She is the daughter of Mitchell and Tracy Hendrickson of Marietta.

At the Career Center, Emma is a member of the Business Professionals of America youth organization and the class parliamentarian of her technical program. Through BPA, she placed second at the regional competition for digital media production. She has received awards for principal list and merit roll. At Warren High School, she is active in the marching band and archery. In her technical program, Hendrickson has earned or may earn industry-recognized credentials and college credit for adobe creative cloud: digital photography, digital storytelling, digital video effects, graphic design, illustrator, InDesign, live streaming & production, Photoshop, Premier Pro, and video production. Emma is receiving a technical focus and learning skills for creating & editing digital graphics, design techniques, information technology, multimedia & image management techniques, and video & sound. Production instructor, Chris Palmer, commented, "Emma is a hard worker and very creative and artistic."

Hendrickson is employed through the Career Center's early placement program. She is performing artwork and graphic design with Marietta City Councilman Jeff Schenkel through Building Bridges to Careers. Upon graduation, she plans to continue working in the field.

Brown is a Fort Frye senior enrolled in the sports medicine & exercise science program. He is the son of Derek Brown of Lowell and Ashlee Grubb of Lowell.

At the Career Center, Braxton is a member of the SkillsUSA youth organization and the National Technical Honor Society. He has received awards for Principal List and Merit Roll. At Fort Frye High School, he is active in football, basketball, track, and lifting. Through academics and his technical program, Brown has or will earn college credit or industrial certifications for CPR/first aid, American national government, chemistry, exercise and athletic training, English composition I & II, introduction to nutrition, management of athletic injuries, medical terminology, physical therapy technician certification, psychology, resistance training, statistics, and Stop the Bleed. Braxton is receiving a technical focus and learning skills for athletic injuries & prevention, exercise & athletic training, nutrition & wellness, and sports exercise psychology.

Sports Medicine & Exercise Science instructor, Lauren Copen, commented, "Braxton is a hard worker with an excellent work ethic. He always upholds the highest integrity."

Upon graduating, Brown plans to attend Kent State University to obtain a bachelor's in exercise science and then go on to physical therapy school.
