Vienna’s Big Truck Day revs up children and their families

VIENNA -- Children and residents got an inside look at vehicles used by city employees and businesses Saturday during Big Truck Day at Jackson Memorial Park.
"The weather is great and we have a phenomenal turnout," Linda Kern, Vienna Community Event planner, said.
Employees and volunteers from the Vienna Public Works and Parks departments have been a tremendous help, Kern said. She said this is just the start of the 20 events planned for this year.
"This kicks off our whole summer of events," Kern said.
Among trucks on display Saturday were a tow truck from Pifers Towing and Recovery, fire engines from the Vienna and Williamstown fire departments, a concrete mixer from Smith Concrete, a dump truck and street sweeper from the Vienna Public Works Department and a bobcat and backhoe from the Vienna Recreation Department.
"This gives the kids an opportunity to see how these trucks work. They can't really run up to them on the street to find out," Kern said.
