Pleasants County Boys and Girls Club holds Community Math Night

ST. MARYS -- Community Math Night sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club of Pleasants County was held this month at the club.
Developed by Regional Educational Laboratory Appalachia, Community Math Night offers a range of activities and games that promote math learning in a fun and interactive way. Participants were involved in math activities such as puzzles and games and explored applications of math in real-life situations.
"I was absolutely thrilled to see so many kids excitedly engaging with math concepts at an early age," Morgan Najar, CEO of the Boys and Girls Club of Pleasants County, said.
"Community Math Night was an incredible opportunity for us to create a fun and accessible environment for students to explore STEM fields and develop a love for learning," Najar said.
"We are grateful for our partnership with The Education Alliance and Regional Education Laboratory Appalachia in making this event possible, and we are excited to continue providing valuable educational experiences for kids in our community."
The goal of Community Math Night is to help students build confidence in their math abilities, Kerry Friedman, a senior researcher and leader of REL Appalachia, said.
"By providing a fun and engaging environment for students to explore math concepts with their community, we hope to inspire a love for math and show students that they are capable of achieving success in this subject," Friedman said.
The event was possible with funding from the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation.
By bringing together educators, STEM professionals, and community members, the Community Math Night was able to provide a fun and interactive learning experience for students and their families.
"Partnerships are vital to creating meaningful educational experiences for students," said Robert Crawford, Deputy Director of Partnerships and Innovation at The Education Alliance. "Community Math Night is a shining example of how community organizations can come together to promote student learning and support families in the community. By leveraging the strengths of each partner organization, we were able to create an event that provided valuable educational opportunities for students while building relationships among community members."
