By CLARA NOELLE 1 min read

MARIETTA -- Marietta College graduated 276 students Saturday at its 186 annual commencement.

At this year's ceremony, there were also the two top speeches in the Jewett Oration.

"It's named after a professor that taught at Marietta when it was still Marietta Academy," said Tina Hickman, Marietta College Registrar who graduated in 2010 from Marietta College.

The choir has a tradition of preparing a song to sing at the commencement, but this year the choir had a special project planned.

"The choir will be singing a song written by the choir Director, Dr. Jay Dougherty," said Hickman.

The song is titled "Take the Moon."

The commencement ceremony also honored retiring faculty, academic prize and awards winners, including this year's valedictorian and salutatorian. This year's valedictorian is Lillian A Daneshamand and the salutatorian is Tyler Jacob Hartline.

The commencement also honored the Capstone award winners, the Pioneer Scholars and the Faculty Award. This year's Outstanding Faculty Award went to Alexandra Perry.
