The Cooper Cabin has undergone rehabilitation including replacing rotted logs.
The cabin originally was on Elizabeth Pike in the Mineral Wells area. Henry Cooper of Virginia built the cabin on a plot of several hundred acres in 1805.
In August 1910, the city purchased the cabin for $400 from Cooper descendants F.L. Barnett and M.L. Lemasters to be preserved as an example of architecture of the white settlers in the region. It is believed to be the first two-story cabin in the local area.
The cabin in 1910 was dismantled log-by-log and rebuilt at City Park. The new kitchen and porch were added in 1962.
The cabin was granted to the Daughters of the American Pioneers in 1911. The Centennial Chapter was founded in 1899 during the 100th anniversary of Wood County.
