Fleming family keeping missing woman in public eye

Gretchen Fleming

PARKERSBURG — The family of a Vienna woman missing since the first week of December will hold a press conference at 4:30 p.m. today on the front steps at Parkersburg High School.

While there is no new information, the press conference is to make sure people know the efforts remain full speed to find Gretchen Fleming, 28, and find information about her, according to Louise Fleming, Gretchen’s grandmother. Getchen has been missing since the early morning of Dec. 4, according to the Parkersburg Police Department.

“To let people know we’re still hard at it, looking for information, someone to come forward,” she said.

PHS Principal Kenny DeMoss contacted the family about having an event, Louise Fleming said.

T-shirts with art by Gretchen’s sister, Emma, will be sold at the event, DeMoss said in an announcement. Shirts are $20 and the proceeds will be added to the reward for information about the missing woman.

A $65,000 reward is being offered.

The artwork represents what Gretchen enjoys, Louise Fleming said. The art is of books stacked atop Doc Martens boots amid wildflowers, she said.

“Gretchen is like Emma, she absolutely loves to read,” Louise Fleming said. “She was a fan of Doc Martens boots.”

A microphone is within a wildflower, Louise Fleming said.

“She wrote songs and loves to sing,” Louise Fleming said. “She has a beautiful voice.”

Louise Fleming said the investigating officers and the chief of Parkersburg police will be in attendance. Pastor Bill Brown of the Vienna Baptist Church will provide the prayer.

Next weekend will mark six months since she disappeared.

Gretchen Fleming, 28, was last seen in the early morning hours of Dec. 4 at the My Way Lounge in Parkersburg, according to the Parkersburg Police Department, the primary agency in the investigation.

Fleming was reported missing on Dec. 12.

Starting at $2.99/week.
