PARKERSBURG -- The 32nd annual Camp Vaudeville will be held July 10-15 at the historic Smoot Theatre on Fifth Street in Parkersburg.
This year's theme, "At a Theatre Near You," will focus on the history of Parkersburg theaters and the famous performers who starred on the stages at the Camden Theatre, the Academy of Music, the Auditorium, the Lincoln Theatre and the Smoot Theatre.
Performers featured will be Lillian Russell, George M. Cohan, Maude Adams, Al Jolson and William Gillette, among others.
The camp is staffed by teachers and instructors with many years of experience in their fields:
• Alison Cullen Cressey, dance
• Barbara Full and Marsha Parsons, music
• David Rexroad and Sam Miser, drama
• Scott Cain, technical
• Julia Lee and Felice Jorgeson, theater history
Camp week involves classes from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. daily, a field trip on Thursday night and ends with a vaudeville show starring all the campers on Saturday night, July 15.
Age range for the camp is entering third grade through entering 11th grade. Cost is $175 per camper and includes all costs, including the camp T-shirt, daily snacks and the Thursday field trip.
This year's camp will include for the first time an evening of history for parents.
