Daughters of the American Revolution
PARKERSBURG --The James Wood Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution learned about women's health issues at its March meeting.
Ruth Callihan, a retired nurse and educator, spoke on Women's Health Myths. Biases from what ever source can impact health care negatively. Prejudices exist due to lifestyles, care history and even income brackets, she said.
Women need to educate themselves on symptoms and must inform themselves of available treatments, Callihan said. Ask doctors questions and take personal responsibility for welfare, she said.
The President General's Report was read by Regent Jane Richards. Pamela Rouse Wright asked all chapters to join the National Conservation Committee's "Put the Sparkle Back in Your Community" chapter challenge.
The National Defense Report, read by Betsy Jefferson, was about George Washington's inaugural ceremonies.
Secretary Louise Wince presented the February minutes, which were amended and approved. Julia Hoffman gave the Treasurer's report and it was filed.
The Regent's Report was given by Richards. The $70 proceeds from February's Gift Basket was used to purchase grocery and hygiene items for VanDevender Middle School care closet.

Spring ATV Poker Run
The Creston Community Building Spring ATV Poker Run will be held April 29 at 340 Anns Run Road, Creston.
Registration is from 9 a.m. to noon with a $10 entry fee. No two-wheelers allowed. First place, 30%; second and third place, 10%. Riders stop at all station and must check in at station 5 by the posted deadline for payout.
Door prizes and a 50-50 drawing will be available, and the kitchen will be open for breakfast and dinner. Prizes and drawings will be available.
