MARIETTA -- On Saturday, the Empty Bowls Luncheon returned to an in-person format at First Presbyterian Church.
"We've been doing this for 23 years," said Judy Peoples, co-chairwoman of Empty Bowls.
"This is our 20th year in person," added Carol Goroza, the other co-chairwoman.
Empty Bowls is a cooperative effort to address food insecurity in Parkersburg, Williamstown and Marietta. Handmade bowls were donated and auctioned off to raise money for the cause.
The food was donated by nearby restaurants including The House of Wines, Glenwood Community, The Galley, Marietta College Parkhurst, The Town House, The TLV, The Lafayette, The Moose Lodge, Levee House Bistro, Jeremiah's, The Riviera at the Valley Gem, Tonya's Country Kitchen, Busy Bee, Harmar Tavern/Spagna's, The Boathouse, Subway, Da Vinci's and Neader's Diner.
"Panera donated some bread," said Goroza. "And the cookies were supplied by the area's churches."
All of the proceeds from the event go to food pantries for the nutritionally insecure population in the area.
Volunteers from Marietta College assisted with the luncheon.
