Drug Take Back Day sites strung throughout Mid-Ohio Valley Saturday

PARKERSBURG -- People can safely dispose of unused prescription medication this weekend as part of the semi-annual National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
From 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, law enforcement agencies and other groups will collaborate at collection points throughout the region, and around the country, for people to turn in medication in an effort to prevent it from being abused.
"This is a very important event," West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey said in a news release. "I encourage anyone who has unused or unwanted prescription medications to participate so we can get potentially dangerous drugs off the streets. Take Back Day has the potential to both reduce diversion of prescription opioids and help identify overprescribing in our state."
The attorney general's office will work with agencies at multiple locations throughout the state this weekend, including the Tyler County Sheriff's Department event in the parking lot of Jenkins Auto Parts in Middlebourne.
The federal Drug Enforcement Agency sponsors Drug Take Back Day, which was launched in 2010.
