Actors Guild of Parkersburg announces Lip Sync winners

2 min read

PARKERSBURG -- The Actors Guild of Parkersburg distributed $1,000 to local non-profits during the 2023 Lip Sync Battle on April 1.

Local celebrities took to the stage portraying artists such as Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton and Madonna and members of the audience voted through cash donations throughout the event. That money was combined with funds raised online prior to the battle and the votes of a judging panel during the live show to determine the winners.

Anna Hughes and Marsha Parsons earned first place honors for their performance of "Defying Gravity" from the Broadway musical "Wicked." Their $500 prize went to the Wood County Society.

Alvin Phillips and Sharon Kesselring received second place for their Kenny Rogers-Dolly Parton performance of "Islands in the Stream." The $300 prize was split between Habitat for Humanity of the Mid-Ohio Valley and the American Red Cross.

Kathe Deitzler collected the $200 third prize for Tina Turner's "Typical Male" in a show that featured her husband, Harry. Their award supported the Humane Society.

Other contestants included Amanda Stevens and family, Roger Shepherd, Dave Fleming, Mike Lorentz and Christina Cross, Lisa Collins, Rick Hastings and Senta Goudy. Each received a $50 prize for the non-profits they supported in the event.

"We all had such a fun time with this event. We were blown away by the costumes, choreography, and just overall effort from all of our contestants," said Lip Sync committee member Sherry Wilson Braid. "The sold-out crowd was so enthusiastic. We hope to bring the event back next year and keep it growing as a way to support both the Actors Guild and our fellow non-profit organizations in the area."
