Wood County BOE to recognize Parkersburg South programs

Slated to approve administrator retirement

PARKERSBURG -- The Wood County Board of Education will hold its regular meeting March 28 in the Parkersburg South High School auditorium at 6 p.m.

The board will hear a performance from the PSHS Chamber Choir, under the direction of Jennifer Ratliff and a number of recognitions.

The board will recognize PSHS teacher Katie Nestor for her work with the Parkersburg News and Sentinel on the "School of Thought" column, the 2023 WV Disability History Essay contest winners, the United States Senate Youth Program Finalist, the PSHS AFJROTC as the 2023 WV State Drill Team Champions, the PSHS boys basketball team as the 2023 Class AAA State Runner Up, PSHS boys swim team as the 2023 Class AAA State Champions, the PSHS wrestling team as the 2023 Class AAA State Champions, the PSHS marching band as the Best Overall Twirler State Champions at the 2022 WV Marching Band Invitational and the PSHS Southern Belles as the 2023 NDA National Runner Up.

The board will also hear an update from the Student Advisory Council by Kennith Cook, director of secondary schools.

During the consent agenda the board will vote to approve the resignation of Whitni Kines, director of finance/treasurer, and to approve John Merritt, assistant superintendent and director of human resources, as the interim treasurer until the position is filled.

The board will also vote to approve the retirement of Michael Fling, assistant superintendent of support services, during the regular agenda.
