PARKERSBURG -- On Tuesday, from 1-4 p.m., the Parkersburg Art Center is inviting area seniors, caregivers, senior center patrons, center residents and senior center employees to an Arty Party that is just for folks of a "certain" age.
"We have planned mini-workshops in watercolor painting, drawing, pottery and print-making as well as other demonstrations. There will be self-guided tours of our exhibits. We will also provide complimentary refreshments for attendees to enjoy, including cookies from Crystal Cafe," said Jessie Siefert, Art Center Managing Director.
The event is free to attend but the Art Center requests that those interested call 304-485-3859 to make a reservation.
"As children, we are encouraged to be creative. Then the pressures of adult life cause many to gradually let go of their creative side. Our intention is to help people bring that back!" said Abby Hayhurst, Artistic Director at the Parkersburg Art Center. "The benefits of art making are many. Getting together with others for classes or workshops such as this can be social, humorous and relaxing. Making things builds self-esteem and helps older adults fend off depression. Art also helps people maintain physical ability and mental dexterity. Basically, art is just good medicine."
Senior Arts Day at the PAC is made possible by the volunteer instructors and by the support of the Artsbridge Ausenheimer Memorial Senior Arts Fund.
There is free off-street parking in the two lots along Eighth Street between Market and Juliana. The Art Center is fully accessible. For more information email info@parkersburgartcenter.org or call 304-485-3859.
