PARKERSBURG -- The First Lutheran Church, 1701 19th St., begins the season of Lent with worship on Ash Wednesday Feb. 22.
Services will be held at noon in person, and 7 p.m. in person and on Facebook LIVE. Communion will be celebrated at both services.
A nursery will be available for the evening service.
The weekly Wednesday Lenten services will begin March 1 and continue each Wednesday through March 29 leading into Palm Sunday, Easter Week, and Easter. Wednesday worship services will be in person at noon and evening services will be at 7 in person and on Facebook LIVE.
A light meal will precede services at 6 p.m. March 1 and March 29. The meal is free, but donations will be appreciated and will be forwarded to First Lutheran's sister Lutheran Synod in Madagascar where needs are great.
According to the Rev. Ian B. Reid, senior pastor, the subject of the Lenten season's weekly sermons will be "Amazing Grace." This year commemorates the 250th anniversary of the famous hymn, he said.
All Lenten services are open to the public and everyone is welcome and encouraged to join in these opportunities for spiritual renewal and Christian fellowship. The sanctuary of First Lutheran allows for ample social distancing.
The church is handicap-accessible, ample parking is adjacent to the church and the Sanctuary has the hearing assistance "LOOP" system. For more information, call First Lutheran 304/428-6174.
