Santa, Christmas tree lighting and fireworks featured in annual event

PARKERSBURG -- The community came together to kick off the 2022 holiday season Saturday with Winterfest activities and the traditional tree lighting in downtown Parkersburg.
The Blennerhassett Hotel and the Cocktail Bar were among the local establishments staying open later in conjunction with the family-friendly activities.
"We are actually celebrating the kickoff to the holiday season. And we've had some great performances today," said Amanda Stevens, executive director of Downtown PKB. "We've had Santa in the city building and lots of activities over in the tent. … Then we will go to the tree lighting and the fireworks."
Jack, Shawna and Liam Lemley were among those joining in the activities.
"I just saw the post on Facebook and thought it would be fun," Shawna Lemley said.
Santa Claus greeted children in the Municipal Building so they could tell him what they wanted for Christmas, train rides were offered and the ceremonial tree lighting lit up downtown right before the fireworks.
