PARKERSBURG -- The Parkersburg Art Center and Downtown PKB will hold ArtOberfest and Chalk the Block on Saturday in downtown Parkersburg.
The two special events will be held in the 700 and 800 blocks of Market Street. The Chalk the Block chalk art competition will be 1-5 p.m. and ArtOberfest will be 6-10 p.m.
Chalk the Block is open to artists of all ages. They will create temporary works of art directly on the sidewalk between 1-5 p.m. Registration is open for teens and adults https://tinyurl.com/2s437j5w. Music will be provided by DJ Casey Powell and additional artful entertainment by the crew from ArtBeat Studio. Artists will also be treated to snacks by Maka Mia Pizza. The public is invited to join the fun, watch the creativity flow and vote for favorites, Cash prizes will be awarded thanks to Chalk the Block sponsor, Artsbridge.
The sixth annual ArtOberfest kicks off at 6 p.m. Saturday. Artists will fill the block in front of the Art Center with unique and hand-crafted items for sale.
Vendors include woodcarvers, potters, metal smiths, bath and beauty products, fused glass, macrame, painters, sign makers and more.
Musical entertainment for the evening includes performances by OYO, Cutler Station, and Ryann Renae. There will be food and drink from WineDown on Market, Crystal Cafe, The Bodega and Parkersburg Brewing Company.
The Art Center and the PAC713 Market will also be open all evening so guests can shop at the market and enjoy the gallery exhibit by West Virginia artist Patty Stewart. Discovery World On Market will have a crafting station for children inside the Art Center from 6-8 p.m.
The event is free, but donations will be accepted at the entrance. There are no tickets to buy and plenty of parking in the lots along Eighth Street.
In the event of rain, the ArtOberfest party will move inside the Art Center. Chalk the Block will be rescheduled if necessary.
