Washington State Community College awards more than $163K in scholarships to Mid-Ohio Valley high school grads

MARIETTA -- Fifty high school graduates from the area have received scholarships from Washington State Community College to attend the school this fall.

Recipients represent 22 high schools from Ohio and West Virginia with scholarships.

"We are proud to honor the academic achievements and dedication of these outstanding students," said Washington State Community College President Dr. Vicky Wood. "Scholarships not only provide educational opportunities, they serve as a pathway to rewarding careers that ultimately enrich and impact our communities."

In total, the merit-based scholarships are valued at $163,500 over two years. With the exception of the one-time-award Opportunity Scholarship, all are paid over two years.

Classes begin Aug. 15 at Washington State. The college is registering students for the fall semester.

Recipients are:

* Belpre High School: Matthew Deems, Dean's Scholarship, $2,000; Bella Padovini, Dean's Scholarship, $2,000; Dekeila Hughes, Dean's Scholarship, $2,000.

* Caldwell Exempted Village School District: Noah Scheich, Dean's Scholarship, $2,000.

* Eastern Local High School: Abigail Bauerbach, Presidential Scholarship, $4,000; Mackenzie Newell, Dean's Scholarship, $2,000; Isabella Blair, Dean's Scholarship, $2,000.

* Fort Frye High School: Hunter Rauch, Dean's Scholarship, $2,000; Astin Clark, Opportunity Award, $500; Lilliauna Schilling, Presidential Scholarship, $4,000.

* Frontier High School: Jonna Mendenhall, Dean's Scholarship, $2,000; Kylie Lamm, Presidential Scholarship, $4,000.

* John Glenn High School: Haley Blow, Dean's Scholarship, $2,000.

* Marietta High School: Logan Offenberger, Dean's Scholarship, $2,000; Madeline Martin, Opportunity Award, $500; Rose Sandlin, Tech Prep Scholarship, $1,000; Corrine Deeter, Tech Prep Scholarship, $1,000; Jarrett Parks, Washington Scholars Award, $9,000; Grace Wojcik, Washington Scholars Award, $9,000.

* Martins Ferry High School: Macy Skapik, Dean's Scholarship, $2,000.

* Meadowbrook High School: Paige Jones, Tech Prep Scholarship, $1,000.

* Monroe Central High School: Jadyn Dailey, Presidential Scholarship, $4,000.

* Morgan High School: Kira Vaughan, Dean's Scholarship, $2,000.

* Parkersburg High School: Chloe Bell, Presidential Scholarship, $4,000.

* Parkersburg South High School: Brian Bellville, Opportunity Award, $500; Ryan Beatty, Presidential Scholarship, $4,000; Logan Bowman, Presidential Scholarship, $4,000; Brittany Cao, Presidential Scholarship, $4,000; Hannah Wingrove, Washington Scholars Award, $9,000.

* Ravenna High School: Aireal Trenter, Opportunity Award, $500.
