PARKERSBURG - Artsbridge has announced the student winners of the Donna Campbell Award for Excellence and the Janet Frazier Awards for two local Art instructors.
The scholarships were created by Parkersburg native, Luke Frazier, who is the maestro of the American Pops Orchestra in Washington, D.C. He created the scholarships to honor his grandmothers, who were a positive influence as he pursued his career in the Arts.
Nora Augenstein of Parkersburg Catholic High School received the Campbell Scholarship for $1,500 to attend the Berklee College of Music at Boston. She is pursuing a career in dance.
Courtney Rather, Parkersburg High School, was awarded the Campbell Scholarship for $1,500 to attend Ohio University at Athens where she plans to pursue a career in animation.
Teachers receiving the Janet Frazier Excellence Award were Stephen Smarr of Wood County Christian in the high school category and Deborah Williamson from Henry J. Kaiser of Ravenswood in the elementary/middle school category.
Teachers were nominated by their colleagues and principals. Students applied through an application process. They submitted an essay about themselves, their academic transcripts and letters of reference from two different sources. This was the third year to award these scholarships.
