Marietta-based band Oyo to release debut album

MARIETTA -- A band from Marietta will release its self-titled debut album on Feb. 8.
Oyo is a six-piece Appalachian roots band formed from jam sessions in the back of JustAJar Design Press in Marietta. Gathered around a single mic, its performances are part honky-tonk, barn dance and indie rock.
Featuring traditional acoustic instrumentation, members of the band are: Aaron Martin, vocals, fiddle and mandolin; Cole Adair, vocals and guitar; Michael Bond, vocals guitar, keys, harmonica and spoons; Bobby Rosenstock, banjo; Drew Tanner, bass; and Joe Ryckebosch, drums and washboard.
Oyo's debut album features 12 original songs by Martin and Bond that take the listener on a road trip through the West Virginia mountains to the Deep South, the American West and points beyond.
Along the way, they encounter the heartache of complicated relationships and the ecstasy of connection, all while capturing the raucous energy of their live performances.
The full album will premiere on WOUB, the Ohio University/NPR affiliate, with the digital release on Feb. 8. Oyo will celebrate with an album release party Feb. 11 at the Adelphia Music Hall in Marietta with special guest Drift Mouth. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door and attendees will receive a free CD of the album the night of the show.
The album was recorded in the sanctuary of an abandoned church in Elkins, W.Va., by Ben Townsend of Questionable Records.
It was mixed and mastered by Bond at Datawaslost Studios in Marietta. Other performers were Heather Hannah on background vocals, Andrew Gilmer on dobro, Ben Townsend on fiddle and Read Connolly on pedal steel.
