PARKERSBURG -- Four students from the region have won $10,000 Educational Savings Fund awards in the final drawing of the Do it for Babydog Round 3 vaccination sweepstakes.
The students, among the 25 awards announced by the governor, are Braelynn Woods of Ripley, Landen Bartlett of Harrisville, Elijah Casto of Parkersburg and Stephen Padgett of Vienna.
The winner of the $100,000 Educational Savings Fund grand prize was Emma Brumfield of Paden City.
All Educational Savings Fund prizes are in a 529 plan managed by the State Treasurer, which will be invested to grow over time. The fund can be used for any educational-related expenses, not just higher education.
Wednesday's announcement was the fourth and final drawing in Round 3 of the Babydog.
Local winners of a lifetime hunting and fishing license are Landon Staats of Spencer, Isaac Hyett of Washington, W.Va., Isaac Lane of Ravenswood, Samuel Highberger of Ravenswood, Chloe Lightfritz of Williamstown, Bowen Taylor of Belleville and Holly Wilson of Parkersburg.
Gov. Jim Justice later this week will announce the school that is the grand prize winner of $100,000. Justice and Babydog, his pet English bulldog that draws the big crowd, will host a party for the entire school to celebrate.
The celebration will include an on-site vaccine clinic and remarks by a doctor to talk about the safety and efficacy of vaccines.
