Shamrock 5K returns to Marietta College

MARIETTA -- As restrictions have died down and events have started to pop back up, so have many 5K races. On Saturday, Frye Dental Group held its 39th annual Shamrock 5K race at Marietta College.
The race had been canceled the past two years, and race coordinator Bret Frye said he was glad to get it back up and running.
According to Frye this race is normally held in March, but he plans to permanently move it to the summer because of the weather.
"A couple hundred people were able to join us and race, which is fantastic," said Frye.
The race is on the River City Runners' list, and many club members ran as well.
All funds from this race benefit the Leslie Frye Foundation, which is named after Bret Frye's late wife who passed away due to cancer in 1998.
"The money goes to sending women who have cancer on a paid family vacation, to help them create fun and long-lasting memories with their family," said Frye.
Frye said he is grateful to the community for helping to keep the 5K and foundation going.
"I am just so thankful that each year, even after not being able to have it for a couple years, Marietta College still lets us utilize their campus, so many volunteers were able to come back, and the campus police, city police, sheriff's department and paramedics were able to join us for the morning," he said.
