PARKERSBURG -- The Parkersburg Homecoming Parade is going to be a traditional parade, Parkersburg Homecoming Festival officials announced.

Lori Ullmann and parade co-coordinator John Chalfant are excited to see the parade back to its original form. This year's parade will be Aug. 21.

"The parade will travel down Market Street from 13th to Second streets. It will step off at 1 (p.m.) Saturday afternoon," said Ullmann. "Lineup will begin at 10 a.m. behind Parkersburg High School. Shriners will line up on Greasy Neal Drive and the larger floats and emergency services vehicles will be on Market Street."

A big change will be made to this year's parade, she said.

"We are going to follow the city's lead and work on replenishing the food banks for the beginning of the school year," Ullmann said. "This is something that we wanted to do last year but due to COVID we had to cancel the entire event. So, we start now."

Ullmann also is excited about announcing the parade grand marshal.

"Our parade grand marshal for this year is longtime sportscaster and television personality Jim Wharton. Jim is such an asset to our community," she said. "We wanted to honor him and his support of the Mid-Ohio Valley community. Jim is really a great friend to us all."

The theme for this year's parade is "Welcome Home."

"We can't wait to welcome everyone to Homecoming this year. Our board and committee members have worked very hard to make sure that this event remains a family friendly free event for our community" said Woody Miller, president of the Parkersburg Homecoming Festival board of directors. "We hope that folks will get together and get their floats ready for a great parade."

Parade applications can be found on the Parkersburg Homecoming Facebook page.
