PARKERSBURG — Donations were given, prizes were raffled and motorcycle fun was had at the Dice Run on Saturday, hosted by the Amputee Center.

Community motorcycle riders, thankful for the dry weather, were able to ride their bikes around the area, stopping at a total of five stops, to roll dice and shop or eat at the locations, similar to a poker run.

The person with the highest rolls at the end of the day received $250 and the lowest received $150.

Prizes raffled off included a Harley Davidson sign and license plates, a helmet, safety kits and many more items.

“I am so impressed by the crowd even with the iffy weather,” said Nancy Miller, founder of the Amputee Center, which is located in both Parkersburg.

The funds raised Saturday go towards improving their Parkersburg space with new equipment for the amputee center and running their support programs offered for all the area amputees.

Dennis Dodrill, of Gallipolis, said he came out Saturday to support the Millers.

“Mark Miller (Nancy’s husband) is so appreciated, he built all my legs,” said Dodrill.

The Amputee Center is the first of its kind, according to Miller.

Several members of the WV State government presented checks totaling $16,000 to The Amputee Center at their Aug. 10 Prosthetics Users Group Meeting.

According to a press release, “West Virginia is the first state in the nation to have a physical location for amputees to meet, exercise, find emotional support and access to resources.”

The Center is also available for non-amputees.

“We have a couple of fitness classes open to the whole community already, and we are working on starting a Bungee Fitness class as well,” said Miller.

The classes are free for amputees and a portion of the class fees go to the center for continued growth.

Those with limb loss, or considering an amputation, are encouraged to join the center, located at 2311 Ohio Ave. Suite B, Parkersburg, at 6:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of the month. Family and friends are also welcomed and encouraged to attend.
