YMCA of Parkersburg offering self-defense class

PARKERSBURG — S.H. Kang’s Tae Kwon Do will teach a self-defense class for the family this month at the YMCA of Parkersburg.

Participants will learn basic self-defense strategies and techniques. Instructors will discuss, demonstrate and work with participants to properly apply the techniques.

Classes will be held July 11, 18 and 25 and will be split into two sessions:

* 1-2 p.m. ages 5-12

* 2-3 p.m. ages 13+

In the first session, kids will learn how to handle a bullying situation and how to protect themselves from an adult. In the second session, adults will learn how to defend against an attacker in a variety of settings.

Physical activity will not be strenuous.

For parents interested in taking the adult classes, free child watch will be available at the Y for children ages newborn to 12.

The cost of the class is $24 for members and $30 for non-members. The cost includes all classes.

“Masters Jennifer and Danny Randolph of S.H. Kang’s Tae Kwon Do Academy felt that there was a need in our community for some basic training in self-defense,” YMCA Program Director Criss Welshans said. “We are excited to be given the opportunity to partner with them, as they are experts in the field of self-defense. We all value the importance of family and keeping them safe.”
