WILLIAMSTOWN -- Friday's storm didn't deter the community from enjoying the Williamstown Volunteer Fire Department's ice cream social. Hundreds of community members came out to enjoy the evening and the food as kids played in Tomlinson Park.

Williamstown Volunteer Fire Department Deputy Chief Paul Jordan said Friday's turnout was one of the largest crowds he has ever seen.

"We bought over 1,200 hot dogs and have already sold out completely," Jordan said only an hour into the event.

Jordan said the annual event is often large, because multiple families use it as a reunion destination.

"It is a wonderful family oriented event, and I am always so glad to see families gathering here, keeping those traditions alive," he said.

The social was canceled last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
