Hearts on Their Sleeves

Dr. Carol Pina, a pediatrician at WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center, and Susan Abdella, director of Emergency Medical Operations, presented the Belpre Soccer Club Monday with a check for $2,000 for an AED defibrillator in the event of a cardiac emergency on the field. The request for the assistance was made by Jason Blair, president of the soccer association. The soccer association has grown from 300 to more than 500 players per season in the last two years. PARKERSBURG -- Dr. Carol Pina, a pediatrician at WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center, and Susan Abdella, director of Emergency Medical Operations, presented the Belpre Soccer Club Monday with a check for $2,000 for an AED defibrillator in the event of a cardiac emergency on the field. The request for the assistance was made by Jason Blair, president of the soccer association. The soccer association has grown from 300 to more than 500 players per season in the last two years. "Unfortunately about 10 years ago we had a fatality at our club when a 12-year-old girl had a sudden heart attack. Compound that with my personal losses of losing my sister in 2018 and my mother in 2019 to heart attacks, I have made it my personal mission to do what I can to prevent this from happening at our fields and having this AED will be so beneficial to our community," Blair said.
