CHARLESTON -- More than 200 students were honored Friday as Knights and Ladies of the Golden Horseshoe, the annual contest about all things West Virginia.
Ceremonies were held at the Culture Center in Charleston. The event has been held since 1931 and is the longest-running program of its kind in the country.
The following students from the region were honored:
* Calhoun County: Kendra Davis and Kathryne Carper of Little Kanawha Valley Christian School.
* Doddridge County: Jayden Powers and Nakeita Leggett of Doddridge County Middle School.
* Gilmer County: Benjamin Donaldson and Allie Ellyson of Gilmer County High School.
* Jackson County: Rebeca Weekley, Jeremiah Franklin, Mason Lanham and Rowan Doss of Ripley Middle School.
* Pleasants County: Brady Rinard and Emma Kirby of Pleasants County Middle School.
* Ritchie County: Bryce Satterfield, Clayton McBrayer and Morgan George of Ritchie County Middle School.
* Roane County: Tyson Watson and Brock Tanner of Spencer Middle School and Andrea Anderson of Walton Elementary/Middle School.
* Tyler County: Haydon Ammons, Annie Roberts and Caedin Brady of Tyler Consolidated Middle School.
* Wetzel County: Aiyana Higgins, Brenna Clark and Mackenzie Simpkins of Paden City High School.
* Wirt County: Allison Neff and Clayton Mills of Wirt County Middle School.
* Wood County: Sophia D'Eramo, Truman Roberts Helena Teltscher of Parkersburg Catholic High School, Owen McCrady of Edison Middle School, Maya Mincks of Hamilton Middle School, Lanyah Shears of Van Devender Middle School and Jackson Wharton of Jackson Middle School.
