VIENNA — Saturday kicked off a two day event for the Ki No Kaze Bonsai Club. People could venture to Scots Landscaping in Vienna, where the club often holds meetings to see their personal Bonsais, learn about caring for Bonsais and pot one of their own in a $50 workshop that included everything needed and personalized care instructions by club members who have over 100 years of knowledge and expertise combined.

According to Club President and founding member Jim Lindley, the art of creating Bonsais has been around for well over a thousand years.

“Bonsai are not genetically dwarfed plants, in fact, any tree species can be used to grow one,”

The club has members from across the region, including Ohio, and Lindley say they are always accepting new members.

“You don’t have to be experienced to join, we will be glad to help you learn everything there is to know about the art of creating a Bonsai,” he said.

In club meetings, members often care for their trees together or go over how to do so.

Bonsais need different care around the year, such as styling, wiring and root priming, according to club secretary Edie Lindley.

“We want to encourage people to join the club and create/care for their own Bonsais,” said Edie Lindley.
