PARKERSBURG -- Awards were presented April 17 to the Blennerhassett Chapter DAR received from the virtual West Virginia DAR State Conference.
The awards were presented during the chapter's April 17 meeting at the Blennerhassett Museum.
The received the following awards:
∫ State Regent's Project - Silver Level, Refurbishment of WV Peters Cottage
∫ Membership Committee: Honorable Mention, Blennerhassett Chapter, 5 new members
∫ Commemorative Events Committee: Other Commemorations - 2nd Place, Blennerhassett Chapter, Miscellaneous, 250th Anniversary of George Washington's Exploration of the Ohio Valley
∫ America 250! Committee: Community Event First Place, Blennerhassett Chapter (Luminaries at Mound Cemetery)
∫ DAR Service to Veterans Committee: Most Unique Activity - Blennerhassett Chapter (Luminaries at Mound Cemetery)
∫ Membership Committee: Successfully Met the 2020 Membership Challenge

∫ Dottie Cornell: Outstanding Work as Chapter Registrar.
∫ Roberta Gellner: Completion of DAR Leadership Training, Members Course; WVDAR Only Quilting Contest, 2nd Place for her wall hanging depicting a lighthouse.
∫ Chris Painter: Completion of DAR Leadership Training New Horizons Course; DAR Genealogy Preservation Committee, Notable Support of the Records Categorization Project; DAR Service to Veterans Committee, Exceptional Support of Veterans; American Heritage Committee, Literature (Fiction), 1st Place for her short story, "My Dearest Adam."
∫ Cathy Hinkle: Completion of DAR Leadership Training New Horizons Course; Essential Worker During Pandemic; American Heritage Committee, Arts Sculpture (Photography), 1st Place for her photo of a candle shining light on her patriot ancestor's family bible.
∫ Shannon Sams-Harper: Essential Worker During Pandemic.
∫ Emma Hunt: Essential Worker During Pandemic.
∫ Catherine Sams: American Heritage Committee, Fiber Arts (Other), 1st Place for her hand-sewn Revolutionary War era flag.
In anticipation of Arbor Day, the guest speaker was Craig Minton from the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources, Forestry Division, who spoke about the importance and care of trees.
A redbud tree was donated for the chapter to plant in honor of Arbor Day at Parkersburg City Park where a plaque will be placed near the tree.
The Chapter also welcomed Emma Hunt into the chapter during the meeting. Emma is the daughter of Regent Mary Ellen Hunt.
