Blennerhassett DAR wins state, national awards

PARKERSBURG -- Two members of the Blennerhassett Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution posted wins in the American Heritage Committee annual contest open to all members.
With the theme of "Rise and Shine Your Light on Your Revolutionary War Patriot," Blennerhassett Chapter members Cathy Hinkle placed 1st nationally in the in the unenhanced color photo category and Roberta Gellner placed 2nd in the West Virginia-only contest in Machine Quilted Quilts.
Hinkle's photograph showed a candle reflecting light through a pair of old eyeglasses sitting on her family's opened bible with her Revolutionary War patriot and his family's names showing.
Gellner's paper-pieced quilt entry depicted a lighthouse shining on the water and land, using colors of brown, red, white and blue with patriotic words in the sky.
Both entries were recognized during the West Virginia DAR Virtual State Conference the weekend of March 12-14. Hinkle's entry also will be recognized at this year's National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Virtual Continental Congress this summer in Washington, D.C.
The Daughters of the American Revolution is an organization for women who can trace their heritage to a patriot of the Revolutionary War.
