MARIETTA -- Music from "Godspell" will be performed by Marietta College students at the Friederich Theater and streamed for free on April 2-3.

The musical, composed by Stephen Schwartz with book by John-Michael Tebelak, based on the Gospel according to Matthew and about the apostles and Jesus Christ, was released 50 years ago.

Shows will be available on scheduled streams at 6 p.m., 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. April 2-3. Free access to each stream can be reserved through www.showtix4u.com/events/MCTheatre beginning Friday.

Marietta College students and employees also should reserve access through ShowTix4U.

Students will perform on the stage at the Friederich Theater.

"Our students have been working on these numbers for the past year since the global pandemic shut down our live performances planned for the spring of 2020," said Andy Felt, director and associate professor. "Now we are happy to share these powerful messages inspired by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ and hope you will join us as we celebrate the coming of spring and share with you the successes of our student performers."

Gwen Sour, class of 2022, majoring in Theatre-BFA, directed the song "We Beseech Thee."

"I have had the unique privilege of working on both sides of the table for this show," Sour said. "I am excited to share the directorial work that I have done with the community, however, I have also had the distinct pleasure of being able to act in this show. Having the opportunity to create theatre during this pandemic has been so cathartic and fulfilling and I think the story of Godspell is about coming together as a community and I can't think of a message that we, as a society, need more now."
