VIENNA — A Vienna writer who is an authority on the Old West in movies and TV has published his latest book.

“The Westerner” special commemorative issue Volume 3 will be the final opus, Roger Crowley said. Crowley has written 14 book about the actors, good guys, bad guys and stuntmen who performed in westerns.

“This is the last one,” Crowley said.

Volume 3 includes stories compiled from previous publications and new information about many of the most popular westerns, such as “Red River” and “True Grit,” and the stars of the shows like John Wayne, Tom Selleck, Sam Elliott, Jock Mahoney, George Montgomery and Randolph Scott, and about historical settings and real-life characters from the wild west, like Chief White Horse.

Information, anecdotes that didn’t make it into the previous volumes and the popularity of the previous volumes encouraged Crowley to publish the third.

“I had so much material and the other two were going so good,” he said.

Previous published issues of “The Westerner” are being sold on online venues, such as amazon.com, Crowley said. The first issue is going for $50, he said.

Crowley has written more than a dozen books.

Among his most popular were “John Wayne: An American Legend,” and “Campfire Conversations,” a collection of interviews with Wayne’s co-workers, which Crowley co-authored, and “The Official TV Western Round-Up.” The latter covered 182 television shows and comments from 40 actors who worked on them.

Among the features in Volume 3 are Alamo Village, Texas; artist Fred Harman; Bent’s Old Fort, Colo.; the Wyoming Centennial; Fort Davis, Texas; historical firearms; an interview with Lee Aaker working on “Hondo” with Wayne; a remembrance of Randolph Scott; western movie heroes, sidekicks and villains; movie festivals; candid photos and interviews.

Volume 3 is 126 pages on glossy stock with more than 200 photos. It costs $29.95 and is available by emailing him at oldwestshop@aol.com, at his website at rmcrowley.com or by calling him at 304 295-3143 for a personally autograph book. The book is printed by Easton Printing in Parkersburg
