DuPont Washington Works donates $25K to Habitat for Humanity of the Mid-Ohio Valley

PARKERSBURG -- DuPont Washington Works presented Habitat for Humanity of the Mid-Ohio Valley with a $25,000 donation to sponsor a home being built on Burnfield Road in Vincent.

Brian Delozier, representative from DuPont Washington Works, presented the check Monday to Habitat during a presentation held at the location of the future home. The future homeowner was also present for the event.

In 2019, Habitat for Humanity International and DuPont engaged in a national partnership bringing the power of DuPont employees and donated building materials to the construction site. In additional to financial support, employees from the local DuPont plant also volunteer their time to help build the home.

This sponsorship is the second house built in the Mid-Ohio Valley as part of the partnership. DuPont also sponsored a home in south Parkersburg that was completed in Fall 2020. For that project, DuPont brought 10 teams of volunteers to help build the home.

The home in Vincent is in the early phase of construction and Delozier said DuPont employees are eager to return to the construction site to help build the house.

"Our employees enjoyed building the first home and we look forward to being able to come out and help build this home as well," he said.

DuPont's support is greatly appreciated, said Robin Stewart, Director of Resource Development for the local Habitat organization.

"We have an ambitious goal of building five homes in 2021 and rely on the generosity of businesses and individuals in the community that donate their time and resources to help us serve families in need of better housing," she said.

Stewart said funds from DuPont will be used to purchase building materials for House 108.

"Over the past six months, the costs of construction materials have increased dramatically, and they continue to climb," she said. ''The donation from DuPont comes at a critical time to make sure we have the funding needed to serve another family in the Mid-Ohio Valley.

"We also appreciate all of the local DuPont employees for their ongoing commitment to help build homes that are affordable for families in our community."

Habitat partners with homebuyers who are committed to providing sweat equity hours, take homeowner education and home maintenance courses, and have met all requirements of homeownership.

Once the home is completed, homebuyers pay a manageable mortgage payment, with no interest on their loan.

Habitat does not offer a hand-out, but a hand-up, to those who are ready and able to enter into the partnership, Habitat officials said.

Habitat is currently building Homes 108, 109, and 110 in the area. Those interested in learning more or making a gift to support Habitat's housing ministry can visit www.habitatmov.com.
