The Castle cancels Holiday House Tours

MARIETTA — The Castle Historic House Museum has canceled holiday house tours effective Monday out of an abundance of caution due to recent increases in COVID-19 cases in Ohio, an officer of the organization said.

“As disappointing as it is, we feel it is important to cancel in-house holiday tours to do our part in reducing the rise in COVID-19 cases and encourage everyone to safely celebrate the holiday season at home with members of your immediate household,” Scott Britton, executive director, said.

The Castle will continue to provide virtual holiday programming, including a discussion of historical Victorian Christmas decor and hands-on workshops on how to make a traditional steamed Christmas pudding, crafting historical holiday ornaments and creating a Victorian holiday punch.

Virtual presentations can be enjoyed from the comfort of home with the entire family.

The Castle gift shop will remain open for the holidays with social distancing measures and masks required. The gift shop has a variety of gifts for stocking stuffers and history lovers, gift certificates and Castle memberships

During the holidays, people can also enjoy “Virtual History Central,” an online virtual offering from The Castle of entertaining and educational programs.

The online content included on Virtual History Central is from previous Zoom presentations by many of The Castle’s esteemed guest speakers. The new offering, available on The Castle’s website, includes recordings of engaging programs for history buffs of all ages to watch at their leisure. Topics range from local history talks, recorded food history cooking classes and hands-on activities.
