PARKERSBURG — A Williamstown man is the grand prize winner of the 66th annual Cookbook contest sponsored by The Parkersburg News and Sentinel.

Rick Petty’s winning recipe, Dad’s Heavenly Apple Crisp Coffee Cake, was the first-place finisher in the desserts category in the culinary tourney that gave him a berth in the finals at the October tasting party where judges adjudicated his entry above the recipes from the other contenders.

The Cookbook is in this weekend’s edition of The Parkersburg News and Sentinel. Numerous recipes were submitted by readers around the region for the annual supplement.

Other first-place finishers in the 2020 contest were Karen Weekly, Washington, W.Va., Sausage Stuffed Mushrooms in the Party Snacks category and Linda Pearson Dally, Vienna, Spinach and Sausage Stuffed in the Main Dish section.

Petty will receive a $500 gift card from Piggly Wiggly.

Judges in the contest were Mrs. Joseph C. Snyder, Vickie Davis, Kiki Angelos and Christina Myer.
