PARKERSBURG — Denise Harris is the August artist on exhibit at WesBanco in downtown Parkersburg.

Harris has been painting as long as she can remember.

She does her art work mainly in acrylic, but has worked with watercolor and colored pencils. Harris has recently become interested in beginning oil painting.

“I’ve been making art for as long as I can remember,” Harris said.

Harris has exhibited at the Parkersburg Art Center and paints backdrops for plays and artistic programs. “I paint mostly for enjoyment. My inspirations come from nature and I love the challenge of capturing mood and expression in my figurative work,” said Harris.

Harris’ WesBanco display consists of images and scenes that evoke nostalgia and simpler times. Music and films inspire much of the work, as well as the beauty of nature.

“I work with music in the background and it enriches my creativity — classical, jazz — anything with a rhythm that gets me moving. This is my first solo exhibit and it’s very exciting,” Harris said.

The Harris Art Exhibit will be on display at WesBanco, 415 Market St., during August during regular business hours of Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and by appointment at the present time.
