Camden Clark Medical Center nurses get their own special deliveries

PARKERSBURG -- Pleasant surprises arrived less than 24 hours apart this month for two nurses at WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center.
Good friends and co-workers Brittany Walters and Kaitlin Hinzman, both labor and delivery nurses in the Women's and Children's Special Delivery Unit at Camden Clark, gave birth to girls in a shorter time period than expected.
Walters' daughter Palmer, weighing 7 pounds and 5 ounces, was born at 12:58 p.m. Jan. 9. Hinzman's daughter Sutton, weighing 5 pounds and 13 ounces, was born at 10:52 a.m. Jan. 10.
Hinzman's due date was Jan. 29 and Walters' due date was Feb. 1.
"We were surprised both (babies) arrived within 24 hours of each other," Walters, 33, of Mineral Wells said. The babies were anticipated to arrive four days apart, she noted.
"Both babies are doing great, really well," Walters said Thursday.
Hinzman, also 33, lives in Harrisville.
Walters described the close births as a "special thing" for the good friends. "We were both in shock" about being in labor around the same time, Walters said.
Walters and Hinzman elected not to know the gender of their babies before the January births. They were surprised they both had girls.
Dr. Michael Shockley delivered Palmer and Sutton. As nurses Walters and Hinzman work often with Shockley in delivering babies at Camden Clark Medical Center.
"It was fun, special … a great memory," Walters said of the arrival of the two babies.
"It was pretty cool," Hinzman said. "We work closely and are friends."
Their hospital rooms were across from each other.
Hinzman and Walters both began working as nurses at Camden Clark Medical Center in 2012.
Their 6-year-old sons were born eight weeks apart. Walters and her husband, Kyle, have a son Logan, 6, and a son Levi, 3. Hinzman and her significant other Jason Cupp have a son Caylor Cupp, 6, and now Sutton Quinn Cupp.
Both nurses are looking forward to returning to work after their maternity leave.
"I love my job," Hinzman said.
"We have an awesome team (at Camden Clark). Great doctors and nurses," Walters said.
