PARKERSBURG -- The third annual Morgan Grimm Memorial Regatta will be today at the Parkersburg High School Crew/OVRC boathouse at 2201 Keever St.
This event is open to the public and is a competitive rowing race with local and out of state high schools plus Ohio University Men's and Women's teams participating, according to a news release.
Opening ceremonies will be at 8 a.m. with the race starting immediately afterward.
Morgan Grimm was a rower with the PHS Big Red Crew throughout her entire high school carrier earning the position of captain in her 2016 senior year. Grimm was described as a fierce competitor and a natural born leader.
After graduation Grimm attended West Virginia University in Morgantown where she tried out and made the WVU Women's Crew Team.
She was on her way home Sept. 17, 2016 when she was involved in a traffic accident and died. "Her loss was not only felt by the PHS Crew Team but also the entire community," a news release states.
Grimm's favorite song when either rowing back to the dock or going back to Parkersburg from a race was "Show me the way home," which is on all of the race shirts for the PHS Crew Teams.
Grimm's family will also be in attendance and last year her sister Jocelyn started the event after opening ceremonies.
The PHS Big Red Crew invites all to attend this race; concessions, T-shirts and bracelets will be on sale with proceeds going toward the Morgan Grimm Rowing Fund, which helps PHS rowers with their spring dues.
