PARKERSBURG -- The 2017 National Day of Prayer gathering will be held at noon today in Bicentennial Park in downtown Parkersburg
Area ministers, laymen, government officials and other civic leaders will speak at the event. Members of the community will also be gathering throughout the morning with live music and spontaneous prayer leading up to noon, when the entire nation prays as one, organizers said.
The national theme this year is "For Your Great Name's Sake! Hear Us… Forgive Us…Heal Us!" taken from Daniel 9:19.
Another Day of Prayer event is planned for 10 a.m. today at Fort Boreman Park, overlooking the city, featuring speakers from multiple denominations, as well as praise and worship music. That event is expected to wrap up around 11 a.m.
In Vienna there will be a National Day of Prayer service at 10 a.m. today at the flagpole in front of city hall.
A National Day of Prayer event will also be held at noon in Marietta on the steps of the Washington County Courthouse. Putnam Street will be blocked off for attendees, and Pastor Rodney Lord from Freedom Gate Church will be overseeing the program.
In Williamstown, National Day of Prayer will begin at noon today at City Hall. In the event of rain, the service will move to the First Presbyterian Church.
