VIENNA – Students at Ohio Valley University this month will raise funds and awareness of testicular cancer, prostate cancer and men’s mental health with the global Movember Foundation movement.
Each year the foundation encourages men to grow a mustache during in November to support for the cause.
Ohio Valley social clubs will compete to raise funds during the promotion. The club and individual raising the most will be announced the first week of December and prizes will be awarded.
Ohio Valley will be the first school in West Virginia to participate in the Movember movement, according to the Movember Foundation website.
Chase Long, a senior marketing major from Buckhannon, W.Va., is leading the Movember campaign at OVU.
“This is a great opportunity to support a worthy cause and have fun in the process,” said Long. “OVU is excited to invite the community to join our efforts and we encourage all men everywhere to ‘grow their mo’ to show support.”
Long is participating in the educational program H’university hosted by the global shaving products brand Harry’s. H’university is a special program developed to teach college students real world skills. Participants apply marketing and public relations tactics to complete special challenges that promote the work of the Movember Foundation, of which Harry’s is a strategic corporate partner.
The skills are taught via H’university’s online webinars by leaders from some of today’s most innovative companies. Long’s challenge was to create a Movember movement on the OVU campus.
Donations from the local community to support OVU’s Movember campaign can be provided to the business office on Ohio Valley University’s main campus.
The Movember Foundation is a global organization committed to changing the face of men’s health. The Movember community has raised $599 million to date and funded over 800 programs in 21 countries. Their work is improving the lives of men affected by prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health problems.
