PARKERSBURG – A Pleasants County woman has been named the director of teacher education at West Virginia University at Parkersburg.

Paula Oliverio has had a long career with Pleasants County Schools and recently left as interventionist at Belmont Elementary School. She brings more than 40 years of experience in education having served as a classroom teacher, instructional leader, mentor and advocate for educator preparation.

"I am honored to join WVUP and serve in this important role," Oliverio said. "Preparing the next generation of educators is both a privilege and responsibility."

Oliverio's ties with the university spans decades. She was a member of the Partnership Project, was a cooperating teacher for many years, adjunct professor and most recently as an assistant professor.

As director of teacher education, Oliverio will lead the university’s teacher preparation programs, collaboratively working with faculty, school partners and the community to prepare qualified educators to positively impact students. Her responsibilities will include overseeing program quality, supporting accreditation efforts, strengthening clinical partnerships and advancing innovative approaches to educator preparation.

"I look forward to working alongside dedicated faculty, students and our P-12 partners to ensure future teachers are equipped with the knowledge, skills and passion to make a lasting difference in the lives of children," Oliverio said.
