PARKERSBURG — United Bank continued its longstanding anniversary tradition Tuesday by giving shamrocks to its customers.
“Throughout the bank’s 187-year history, United has grown and evolved while remaining grounded in our commitment to excellence in service,” said Richard M. Adams Jr., CEO of United Bankshares Inc. “This past year reflected both strong organic growth across our markets and strategic expansion in areas where we see long-term opportunity. That momentum is driven by the continued trust and support of our customers, employees and shareholders, and we are proud to celebrate this milestone together.”
United opened its doors on March 17, 1839. Since then, it has grown to have a presence across the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast.
United Bank’s anniversary marks another year of strong financial performance and industry recognition, the company said in a press release. In 2025, the bank’s parent company, United Bankshares, Inc., retained its “Dividend King” status, reaching its 52nd consecutive year of dividend increases for shareholders while reporting record earnings. In the bank’s founding state, United maintained its position of No. 1 bank by deposit share for the second year in a row and recently earned the title of best company in West Virginia, according to Forbes.

Additionally, United remains one of the top five Most Trustworthy Banks in America for a fourth consecutive year, as named by Newsweek.
“Throughout United Bank’s growth story, we have never once forgotten our roots in West Virginia, or the people and communities who have contributed to our success,” said DF Mock, regional president. “It is an honor to serve the Mountain State and the people who call it home, and we look forward to continuing to invest in the local community in the years ahead.”
