MARIETTA — With spring fast approaching, the theme of this month’s First Friday event in downtown Marietta is the “Golden Age of Hollywood.”

Marietta Main Street’s monthly event runs from 5-9 p.m. tonight and features late shopping, special promotions, live music and more.

March’s theme is a nod to the Ohio History Connection’s theme “Ohio Goes to the Movies”, part of the year-long America 250 program.

According to a release from Marietta Main Street, while some people believe the Golden Age of Hollywood was limited to the 1930s, others consider it to be a broader era spanning the ’30s through the ’50s. People are encouraged to pay tribute to their favorite era by dressing up in vintage style.

Representatives of the Washington County Board of Developmental Disabilities and the Boys & Girls Club of Washington County will be set up on the Armory lawn.

Various downtown businesses will have special activities and sales.

Gypsy River will perform live from 6-8 p.m. at First City Records, where owner Aaron Whited is embracing the cinematic theme.

“Before and after the performance, I will play favorite movie scores and classic soundtracks throughout the store,” he said.

New downtown businesses participating in the event are Twisted Roots Salon and Life Balance Healing in the Dime Bank Building. Teri Ann’s, Downtown Bargains and JustAJar Design Press will all be open late for the event.

Clutch Collective will host local watercolor artist Corrissa Flesher, after she had to reschedule from last month’s event due to snow.

“We’re excited to host local artist Corrissa Flesher after having to reschedule last month due to snow,\\\” said Sarah Arnold, owner of Clutch Collective. “She’ll be set up with her vibrant watercolors and paper goods, just in time for spring,” said Sarah Arnold, owner of Clutch Collective.

Over the Moon Pub and Pizza will host Jake Dunn performing from 6:30-9:30 p.m. with no cover charge.

Downtown First Friday events take place the first Friday of every month, February through December.
