West Virginia Department of Human Services announces Energy Assistance Program for low-income residents

CHARLESTON — The West Virginia Department of Human Services (DoHS) has announced that it will accept applications for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP), a federally funded program assists eligible West Virginians with home heating costs, through Friday, Feb. 20, or until funding is exhausted. Eligibility for LIEAP benefits is based on income, household size, and responsibility for heating expenses. For fiscal year 2026, income eligibility is set at 60% of the state median income for households of up to seven individuals and 150% of the federal poverty level for households with eight or more members. To qualify, households must meet all program guidelines and income requirements for every household member. Applications are available online at www.wvpath.wv.gov, at your local DoHS office, or at participating community agencies. These Agencies are West Virginia Community Action Agencies – https://wvcap.org/agencies/ and West Virginia Senior Centers- https://wvdscs.org/senior-centers/ The maximum allowable gross monthly income levels for LIEAP Fiscal Year 2026 are: Household Size, Gross Monthly Income Limit * $2,454 * $3,209 * $3,965 * $4,720 * $5,475 * $6,230 * $6,372 * $6,769 * $7,456 * $8,144 For each additional person after 10, add $688. Households whose countable income exceeds the maximum amount are not eligible. However, some types of income may be excluded for LIEAP. The West Virginia Department of Human Services (DoHS) provides a wide range of necessary and life-saving services to many West Virginia residents. DoHS includes the Bureau for Social Services, Bureau for Medical Services, Bureau for Child Support Enforcement, Bureau for Family Assistance, Bureau for Behavioral Health, Office of Drug Control Policy, Commission to Study Residential Placement of Children, Family Protection Services Board, Catastrophic Illness Commission, and the WV Women’s Commission.
